Supporting a ‘first of its kind’ project for Fuel Cell Systems Ltd
DON'T JUST TAKE OUR WORD FOR IT!
Who we work with is everything to us, our relationships with our customers really matter. We love working with people who think like we do. We want to inspire everyone to see how important the safety of their staff, themselves and anyone around them is and we’re doing a great job.
We definitely think outside of the box at British Engineering Services and we love working with customers who do the same. And that’s just one of the reasons our partnership with Fuel Cell Systems Ltd (FCSL) is so successful. The company is focused on developing ‘clean energy through hydrogen’ and have launched a number of solutions that help keep many different vehicle types moving, with absolutely zero emissions.
The challenge
FCSL needed support from our team during one of their recent projects. The development of a ‘first of its kind’ ADR truck (suitable for carrying dangerous goods by road) to be used as a hydrogen fuel dispenser, required a number of activities completing to make sure the tanker was safe from the very early build stage, fit for purpose and adhering to all legal requirements.
The ‘top secret’ nature of this project meant that the British Engineering Services engineer had to complete the work both discreetly and in line with the on-site guidance. On top of this, the team had to work to tight project timescales specified by the customer to prevent any production delays further down the road.
The solution
Our specialist engineers worked alongside the onsite team from the very early days, carrying out initial tests on individual pieces of material and providing Type A Approval at final build stages. The team worked around the needs of the customer, making sure all deadlines were met and the project was able to stick to all crucial deadlines.
Our technical experts really know their stuff when it comes to commissioning new equipment and were on hand to guide the Fuel Cell Systems Ltd team, focusing on safety and regulatory compliance at all times.
The project was a huge success and will undoubtedly have a significant impact on future zero emission focused projects. We are delighted to have played a part in this and look forward to working with FCSL on their future, industry leading projects.
Tom Chicken, CTO at Fuel Cell Systems Ltd, commented, “British Engineering Services did an amazing job and provided an extremely professional and efficient service to enable our hydrogen refuelling truck to achieve ADR certification. With BES’ help, this is now the first refueller of its kind in the world allowing hydrogen to be transported by road. Our customer, EMEC (European Marine Energy Centre) are delighted with the vehicle which is currently being used to refuel the first hydrogen powered passenger plane.”
